The Hills Are Alive! The international tour of Rodgers and Hammersteins The Sound of Music continues its journey around the world, delighting audiences at every stop. We’re casting for current and future replacements in both the adult company and the Von Trapp Children for the current and upcoming touring seasons. This tour has already completed prior engagements in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Mumbai, and Macao. Experience the magic and travel the world with us.
In-person callbacks will take place in New York City on June 4, 2024 for the Von Trapp Children and June 5, 2024 for Adults. If you cannot attend in-person callbacks, we’d still love for you to submit for consideration.
Project Dates:
Ongoing tour, currently traveling Mainland China prior to summer engagements in Hong Kong and Taiwan, with the final performance for Season 2 on/about July 14, 2024, with a possible extension through September 2024. Season 3 is set to begin on/about October 2024.
Markets/Territories:
Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Middle East, South Korea, Japan, and more.
Mainland China engagements are generally one week or more.
Because the tour is international, both AEA and non-AEA performers can audition.
An extra $25/week will be provided for performers with principal understudy assignments, and an extra $10/week will be provided for performers with specialty ensemble understudy assignments. Adult performers also receive a bonus of $50/performance when performing a principal understudy assignment, and minor performers will receive a bonus of $25/performance when performing a principal understudy assignment.
For Minors:
Tour provides for minor performers to each travel with one adult chaperone. Each minor performer must be accompanied by a chaperone, and both minor performer and chaperone will share double-occupancy accommodations (including internet, and breakfast for each). Additionally, the chaperone shall also receive $50/day per diem, travel, and travelers insurance plan, but no salary is paid to chaperone.
Education and tutoring on tour are provided by our partner, On Location Education (OLE). OLE handles administrative tasks for fulfilling local school district requirements and assigns a touring teacher to facilitate classwork with minors, accompanying the production throughout the school season.

[ CAPTAIN VON TRAPP ]
Male identifying character, 40s. A retired naval officer and proud Austrian. Polished, yet very military in the way he runs his life. Highly organized and regimented, efficient, and smart. Baritone F#2-E4.
[ ELSA SCHRAEDER ]
Female identifying character, 30s-40s. A baroness. She is a wealthy widow, sophisticated, charming, and clever. Legit Soprano up to B6.
[ MAX DETWEILER ]
Male identifying character, 40s-50s. True and loyal friend to the von Trapp family. He is witty and clever and can be pushy when pursuing what he wants. Baritone C3-G4.
[ MOTHER ABBESS ]
Female identifying character, late 30s-50s. A bold leader of the abbey. She is wise, kind, and strong, and authoritative in nature. Sings the anthem Climb Evry Mountain, so must be an excellent operatic Mezzo or Soprano with a powerful chest belt B3-Ab5.
[ ROLF GRUBER ]
Male identifying character, 18+ to play 17 years old. Suitor to Liesl, telegram delivery boy, later a Nazi solider. He is clean cut with a bad boy edge, self-important but pleasant. Baritone D3-E4. Actor should be comfortable with dance.
[ LIESL VON TRAPP ]
Female identifying character, 18+ to play 16 years old. The oldest von Trapp child. A teen on the verge of womanhood. She is innocent, naïve, and initially infatuated with Rolf. Chest belt/mix with a legit Soprano G3-A4. Actor should be comfortable with dance.
[ FRIEDRICH VON TRAPP ]
Male identifying character, to play 14 years old. Height requirement: 50 max. He tries to be the man of the family. He is quiet and gentlemanly. Excellent singer. Actor must have an unchanged voice boy Soprano to G5 and be an excellent singer.
[ LOUISA VON TRAPP ]
Female identifying character, to play 13 years old. Height requirement: 411 max. She is initially mischievous and rebellious; she eventually softens to Maria. Must be an excellent singer.
[ KURT VON TRAPP ]
Male identifying character, to play 11 years old. Height requirement: 49 max. He is inquisitive and adorable. He longs for love and attention from his father. Actor must have an unchanged voice boy soprano to G5 and be an excellent singer.
[ BRIGITTA VON TRAPP ]
Female identifying character, to play 10 years old. Height requirement: 47 max. She is intelligent, independent, bookish, and thoughtful. She is always honest and is not afraid to speak her mind. Must be an excellent singer.
[ MARTA VON TRAPP ]
Female identifying character, to play 7 years old. Height requirement: 44 max. She is sweet and gentle. Must be an excellent singer.
[ GRETL VON TRAPP ]
Female identifying character, 6+ to play 5 years old (must be at least 6 years old to audition). Height requirement: 40 max. She has the cute factor and is at first somewhat shy but warms to Maria immediately. Must be an excellent singer.
